COL BKB: Michigan 75, Tennessee 45

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 18 (UPI) -- Zack Novak made three 3-point shots in a second half run that sent eighth-seeded Michigan off on a 75-45 rout of No. 9 Tennessee in the NCAA tournament.

The Wolverines (21-13) head to third-round West Region action against top-seeded Duke, which had little trouble in an 87-45 victory over No. 16 Hampton in the second game Friday in Charlotte, N.C. The Duke-Michigan game is Sunday. Tennessee fell to 19-15 this year.

Michigan broke the game open with a 19-2 run over the first 7 minutes of the second half, turning a 33-29 halftime lead into a commanding 52-33 advantage. Novak started the run 34 seconds into the period with a 3-point shot.

The Volunteers answered with a dunk by Brian Williams at the 18:51 mark but didn't score again until Trae Golden's short shot with 12:59 to play. By then Novak had popped in two more 3-pointers and Michigan had fashioned a 52-31 lead.

The Wolverines continued to pull away, building a 30-point lead at 70-40 on Stu Douglass's dunk with 4:17 to go.

Novak made 4-of-6 3-point tries and had a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds. Douglass, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Matt Vogrich each added 11 points in the balanced Michigan attack.

Tobias Harris scored 19 points for Tennessee, which didn't have another player score more than six points.
