Driscoll out front in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico, March 10 (UPI) -- James Driscoll, seeking a victory that would turn his PGA Tour career around, seized a two-shot lead Thursday after one round of the Puerto Rico Open.

Driscoll has never won on the tour, having come close last year when he lost in a playoff to Zach Johnson in San Antonio. This year, however, he has missed the cut in the only three events in which he has competed.

He played the first 14 holes at the Trump International Golf Club course in 11-under Thursday and birdies on two of the last four holes would have given him a 59. Instead, he bogeyed two of the last four and shot a 9-under 63.

Will MacKenzie was alone in second at 65 while Omar Uresti, Brendan Steele and two-time major championship winner Angel Cabrera were all at 66.

John Daly played his first nine holes in 5-under, but then made three bogeys and a double bogey en route to a 2-under 70 that left him tied for 35th place.
