COL BKB: West Virginia 65, Connecticut 56

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., March 2 (UPI) -- Darryl Bryant scored the last seven points in a game-ending 15-5 run Wednesday that brought West Virginia a 65-56 decision over No. 16 Connecticut.

The Huskies made only two field goals in the final 10 minutes, shot just 37.5 percent from the field and lost for the third time in four games.

Connecticut held a 51-50 lead before the Mountaineers went on their late-game outburst. Deniz Kilicli scored five points during the run and Bryant produced his team's final seven from the foul line.

West Virginia (19-10, 10-7 Big East Conference) improved its NCAA Tournament resume with its third victory in four contests. The Mountaineers close out the regular-season at home Saturday against No. 11 Louisville.

Connecticut (21-8, 9-8) will likely finish among the bottom eight in the conference, which means the Huskies would have to win five games in as many days to capture the Big East Tournament.

Joe Mazzulla led West Virginia in scoring with 18 points. Kemba Walker had 22 for the Huskies.
