NHL: Vancouver 3, St. Louis 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Manny Malhotra put Vancouver in front just 65 seconds into the third period Thursday and the Canucks held on to defeat St. Louis 3-2.

Vancouver, which fell to Montreal Tuesday, has not lost back-to-back games since late November.

The Canucks lead the NHL with 87 points in 62 games.

Vancouver took a 2-0 lead after one period on goals from Mikael Samuelsson and Sami Salo. It was the first goal of the season for Salo, a 12-year veteran defenseman who was playing in just his seventh game of the campaign.

The Canucks let the lead slip away in the second period when Alex Pietrangelo and David Backes scored in the span of 1:14.

Malhotra broke the tie with a wraparound shot that eluded Ty Conklin.

Cory Schneider made 28 saves to get the win. Conklin stopped 24-of-27 shots.
