EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- All-Star guard Deron Williams has been obtained by the New Jersey Nets from the Utah Jazz for two players, two draft picks and cash, the Nets said Wednesday.

Williams averaged 21.3 points, 9.7 assists and 3.9 rebounds in 53 games this season for Utah. He boasts six-year career numbers of 7.3 points and 9.1 assists per contest in 439 NBA games.

While making the NBA All-Star team twice, Williams had a tense relationship with former Jazz coach Jerry Sloan, who resigned Feb. 10.

"We are very excited to add a player the caliber of Deron Williams to our roster," Nets General Manager Billy King said. "He is one of the premier point guards in the NBA, and his skill and talent level will bolster our franchise as we continue to build towards our goal of becoming a championship-caliber team."
