NHL: Vancouver 4, Ottawa 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Mikael Samuelsson notched two goals and an assist for Vancouver Monday, improving the Canucks' NHL-best record with a 4-2 decision over Ottawa.

Samuelsson's first goal 2 minutes into the second period gave the Canucks a 3-0 lead, but Vancouver had to weather a determined Senators comeback until Samuelsson's second tally into an empty net iced the victory.

Ryan Kesler added a goal and a helper, Alexandre Burrows also scored and Mason Raymond added three assists for Vancouver, which notched its sixth straight win and improved to 35-10-9 -- nine points better than second-place Detroit in the Western Conference.

Roberto Luongo turned aside 31-of-33 shots for the Canucks.

Ottawa got goals from Nick Foligno and Jason Spezza and Brian Elliott stopped 26-of-29 shots in the loss.
