COL BKB: Illinois 88, Northwestern 63

CHAMPAIGN, Ill., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Demetri McCamey led No. 20 Illinois to an amazing shooting performance in the first half Thursday en route to an 88-63 blasting of Northwestern.

The Fighting Illini shot 82 percent from the field while taking a 23-point lead at intermission. The Illinois starters played sparingly in the second half and wound up making a combined 19-of-29 shots.

McCamey had 14 points to go with seven assists, Mike Tisdale added 13 points and Mike Davis had 12 and seven rebounds.

Illinois remained one of four teams in the Big Ten Conference without a league loss. The Illini improved to 13-3 for the season and to 3-0 in league play. Purdue, Michigan State and No. 2 Ohio State are also unbeaten in conference action.

Northwestern (9-4, 0-3) was led by JerShon Cobb with 18 points. The Wildcats made only 34 percent of their shots.
