Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- U.S. golfer Jim Furyk has been named the Player of the Year by the PGA of America, officials said Monday.
Furyk garnered 60 points in the award voting, including 10 each for his three 2010 wins at the Transitions Championship, the Verizon Heritage and his season-ending victory at the Tour Championship.
The PGA said Furyk finished 10 points ahead of Ryder Cup teammate Matt Kuchar and Steve Stricker in the voting.
Kuchar was named the winner of the Vardon Trophy for the lowest adjusted scoring average -- finishing just .05 strokes better than Stricker.
Kuchar, who averaged 69.61 strokes per round, finished first on the PGA Tour money list thanks to his 12 Top-10 finishes in 26 starts.
