Djokovic out at Paris Masters

PARIS, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Defending champion Novak Djokovic was bounced Thursday from the Paris Masters tennis tournament.

Djokovic, the No. 2 seed was beaten by Michael Llodra, who also took out No. 16-seeded John Isner in the second round, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in a third-round match. Llodra won a healthy 71 percent of the points on serve and saved the three break points he faced.

Eighth-seeded Andy Roddick claimed a straight-set victory that, combined with Gael Monfils' 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win over No. 6-seeded Fernando Verdasco, locked up an ATP World Tour Finals spot. Roddick topped Ernests Gulbis 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) in getting to the Paris quarterfinals.

No. 1-seeded Roger Federer took out Radek Stepanek for the second time in a week, winning Thursday 6-4, 6-3. Federer faced two break points, one of which was followed by a five-game winning streak that gave Federer the first set and control of the second.

Andy Murray, the third seed, shook off a challenge from Marin Cilic, 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 6-3; while fourth-seeded Robin Soderling was a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 winner over Stanislas Wawrinka.

Also Thursday, No. 10-seeded Nikolay Davydenko ousted fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 and 11th-seeded Jurgen Melzer upset seventh-seeded David Ferrer 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 6-3. However, the day's other results meant that Berdych and Ferrer still secured World Finals invitations.

Federer will go against Melzer and Murray plays Monfils in the top half of the bracket quarterfinals Friday. Soderling meets Roddick and Davydenko draws Llodra in the lower-half matches.
