Lincicome fires career round

DANVILLE, Calif., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Brittany Lincicome turned in one of the best rounds in the history of women's golf Thursday to seize a four-shot lead at the CVS LPGA Challenge.

Lincicome fired an 11-under 61 at the Blackhawk Country Club. She birdied six of her final seven holes to produce her lowest score ever and tie for the second-best 18-hole total on the LPGA Tour in relation to par.

The only sub-60 score in LPGA Tour history was fired by the now-retired Annika Sorenstam.

Lincicome has won three times on the tour and is seeking her first victory since she eagled the final hole to capture a major title at the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Wendy Ward was alone in second with a 65 while Moira Dunn shot a 66 to finish the first round in third place. Tied for fourth at 67 were Jin Young Pak, Michele Redman, Amy Hung and Katherine Hull.

Lincicome birdied all four of the par-3 holes on the Blackhawk course. She finished her round on the front nine and the only hole she failed to birdie among the final seven was the par-5 fifth.
