O'Meara edges Allen in Senior Players win

POTOMAC, Md., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Mark O'Meara's par on the first playoff hole Sunday enabled him to defeat Michael Allen and win the Senior Players Championship.

O'Meara two-putted to save par on No. 18 at the TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm while Allen carded a bogey after his tee shot hit a pair of trees and ended up in the right rough.

O'Meara (2-under 68) and Allen (66) went to an extra hole in the season's final major Champions Tour event after both finished at 7-under 273.

The victory was the first individual seniors tour honors for O'Meara, who had teamed with Nick Price to win the Legends of Golf earlier this year.

Loren Roberts grabbed sole possession of third place at minus-5 after firing a 68 while Jeff Sluman carded a 66 to take fourth at 4-under 276.
