MLB: San Francisco 3, Arizona 1

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A three-run homer by Pat Burrell and a typically excellent outing from Tim Lincecum Wednesday gave the San Francisco Giants a 3-1 victory over Arizona.

The Giants stayed two games in front of San Diego with four games to play in the battle for the National League West crown. San Francisco will host the Diamondbacks again Thursday while the Padres will meet the Chicago Cubs. The Giants will then host San Diego for the final three games of the regular season.

Arizona had a 1-0 lead heading into the fourth but Ian Kennedy (10-11) gave up a single to Aubrey Huff to open the inning and walked Buster Posey on four pitches.

That brought up Burrell, who looked at a strike before hitting his 20h homer of the season.

Lincecum (16-10) gave up a home run to Stephen Drew on the second pitch of the game, but held the Diamondbacks in check the rest of the way in a seven-inning effort. He allowed six hits and struck out 11 while throwing 114 pitches.

Brian Wilson made things interesting in the ninth before earning his 47th save.

Pinch-hitter Augie Ojeda doubled to start the inning and moved to third on a ground out by Drew. Mark Reynolds then worked a one-out walk, bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate.

Wilson, however, got Kelly Johnson to strike out swinging and Chris Young grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.

San Francisco won its third in a row and reached 90 wins for the first time in six seasons.
