MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer will miss at least a couple of games with a sore left knee, the all-star catcher and his manager say.

Mauer, who left during Sunday's game, a 6-2 loss to Oakland, says he doesn't know how bad his injury is, MLB.com reported Monday. It's the same knee in which he tore the meniscus in 2004, his rookie season.

"I don't know. They say it's day to day. I really don't know a whole lot right now," he said.

"I'm just trying to get back on the field. I don't know a whole lot right now. I'm just trying to do whatever I can to get back there."

Mauer said he hurt his knee running out a groundout in the sixth inning.

"I was running down the baseline," he said. "It started getting a little worse and worse, and I thought it was the right time to get out of the game."

Ron Gardenhire, manager of the American League Central-leading Twins, said Sunday he didn't believe Mauer's injury was serious.

"Hopefully it's just a couple of days and go from there," Gardenhire said.
