MLB: San Francisco 7, San Diego 3

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Matt Cain went eight-plus innings and the San Francisco Giants produced four home runs Thursday in a 7-3 win over San Diego.

Cain (11-10) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts for the Giants, pulled within one game of the first-place Padres in the National League West.

Aubrey Huff went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run for the Giants, who won for the fifth time in their last six games. Buster Posey hit a two-run home run and Juan Uribe and Pat Burrell each had a solo shot for San Francisco.

San Diego starter Jon Garland (13-11) took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits over five innings, with three walks and two strikeouts.

Ryan Ludwick had a two-run home run and Will Venable had a solo homer for the Padres.
