Franchitti edges Power for Mid-Ohio win

LEXINGTON, Ohio, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Dario Franchitti hung on down the stretch, holding off a determined Will Power Sunday to claim the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Franchitti used smart pit stop management in the late going, beating Power out of the pits twice and then beating back a furious charge to win by a half-second.

The victory was Franchitti's second of the year following his win at the Indianapolis 500 in May. It was also the 15th of his IndyCar career.

Power's second-place finish allowed him to clinch the IZOD Series' first road/street course championship, posting a 41-point lead over Franchitti in the rankings.

Third place went to Helio Castroneves.

Alex Tagliani led for 30 laps but finished fourth and Scott Dixon, who took the Edmonton IndyCar race two weeks ago, ended up in fifth.
