MLB: Toronto 17, Tampa Bay 11

TORONTO, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- J.P. Arencibia homered twice in his major league debut, leading an eight-homer barrage Saturday to power the Toronto Blue Jays past Tampa Bay 17-11.

Arencibia, a Toronto catching prospect, socked a homer off James Shields (10-10) on the first pitch he saw in the majors. He also went deep in the sixth, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored as the Blue Jays posted a series win with their second straight over the Rays.

Aaron Hill also homered twice, driving in four runs. Jose Bautista belted his major league-leading 34th homer and Adam Lind, Lyle Overbay and Edwin Encarnacion also went deep for Toronto.

Brian Tallet (2-4), who came on in the fifth inning, went three frames, allowing two unearned runs to pick up the win.

Dan Johnson homered and drove in four runs for the Rays, who lost their season-high fourth straight and fell a full game behind the New York Yankees in the American League East.
