OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Royals scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth Tuesday on a fielder's choice by Gregor Blanco and went on to top Oakland 3-2.

Jesse Chavez (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Joakim Soria retired the A's in order in the ninth for his 30th save.

Craig Breslow (4-3) took the loss. Breslow was the last of four Oakland pitchers in the game and coughed up the eventual winning run on one hit and one walk. The A's have lost four of six.

After Gordon's early home run, Oakland tied the score 1-1 on an RBI single in the fourth by Matt Watson.

The two sides traded runs in the fifth with Kansas City taking a 2-1 lead on Chris Getz's RBI groundout and Oakland evening the score on an RBI double by Kurt Suzuki.
