Pac-10 Conference to be called Pac-12

NEW YORK, July 27 (UPI) -- The Pac-10 Conference will be known as the Pac-12 starting with the 2011-12 season, with the addition of two new teams, conference officials said Tuesday.

Conference Commissioner Larry Scott announced the name change as part of a new branding campaign.

The University of Colorado and the University of Utah will be added to the conference following the completion of the upcoming school year.

The name change is a first for the conference since 1978. That was the year that Arizona and Arizona State joined what was then known as the Pac-8.
