MLB: Chicago White Sox 1, LA Angels 0

CHICAGO, July 8 (UPI) -- John Danks took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Thursday and ended up with a 2-hit victory in the Chicago White Sox 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Danks (8-7) saw his no-hit bid broken up by back-to-back singles by Reggie Willits and Howard Kendrick to open the seventh but didn't allow another hit in pitching his first complete game shutout of the season.

He struck out seven and didn't walk a batter.

Angels starter Ervin Santana (8-7) pitched nearly as well, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four in eight innings. Alex Rios had two of the hits, including a first-inning double, for the White Sox.

Santana hit Juan Pierre with a pitch to open the Chicago first. After an out, Rios doubled, with Pierre stopping at third. Paul Konerko followed with a fly out center that was deep enough to score Pierre.

The game, which had a total of five hits, three walks, one error and no pitching changes, took 1 hour, 50 minutes to play.
