PITTSFORD, N.Y., June 25 (UPI) -- Cristie Kerr shot the low round of the tournament with a 6-under-par 66 Friday to seize a five-shot lead midway through the LPGA Championship.
Kerr, the only American to win on the LPGA Tour this year, finished 36 holes at the Locust Hill Country Club course in 10-under 134. That matches the two-round tournament record set two years ago by the now-retired Lorena Ochoa.
Mika Miyazato and Inbee Park both shot 70 and shared second place at 139. Amy Yang and Brittany Lincicome were tied for fourth at 140.
"I played awesome today," Kerr said. "I made a couple of long putts. I don't think anybody expected anybody to be in double digits after two days."
Kerr is seeking her second major title, having won the 2007 U.S. Women's Open.
"I've won a lot of regular tournaments (13) and I think it's really time (for another major)," Kerr said. "What Tiger (Woods) did so well for so long was he really focused on the majors and put all of his energy into those weeks. I feel like I'm doing that now."
