Federer stretches Halle win streak to 28

HALLE, Germany, June 11 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Roger Federer held off Philipp Kohlschreiber for a quarterfinal victory at the Gerry Weber Open, a grass-court tournament in Germany.

Federer, who has won the event five times and has won his last 28 matches in the tournament, advanced with a 7-5, 6-3 win. Federer lost 10 points in 11 service games. Half of those points came in the game in which Kohlschreiber got his only break-point chance of the day.

Philipp Petzschner earned a semifinals shot at Federer with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Lukas Lacko in his match Friday. Petzschner piled up four service breaks, including three in the second set.

The other semifinal Sunday will send eighth-seeded Lleyton Hewitt against Benjamin Becker. Hewitt beat Andreas Beck 7-6 (7-0), 6-1, losing 13 points once the first set reached the tie-breaker.

Becker was a 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory over Mischa Zverev, losing eight points on serve. Becker won 12 of the 13 points in his three second-set service games.
