Nadal, Djokovic make third-round in London

LONDON, June 9 (UPI) -- Top seeds Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic each took second-round victories Wednesday at the grass-court Aegon Championships in London.

Nadal, the world No. 1, needed just 53 minutes to dispatch Marcos Daniel 6-2, 6-2. He lost only seven points on serve and took 64 percent of the points in the match. Nadal has won his last 23 matches overall and is looking for his fifth consecutive championship this year.

Djokovic took out Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-3. Djokovic didn't drop serve in the contest but had to save six break-point situations to keep that streak going.

Mardy Fish pulled off the only upset of Wednesday's 11-match schedule, ousting 13th-seeded Santiago Giraldo 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Fish had 16 aces and won 88 percent of the points when he landed his first serve.

Also Wednesday, fifth-seeded Marin Cilic came from behind in beating Nicolas Mahut 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2; seventh-seeded Sam Querrey advanced over Robby Ginepri 7-6 (7-4), 6-2; and No. 8-seeded Feliciano Lopez stopped Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-4.

Other seeded players advancing to the third round were No. 9 Julien Benneteau, 12th seeded Michael Llodra, 14th-seeded Dudi Sela and No. 16 Denis Istomin. Unseeded Marcel Granollers and Xavier Malisse also earned third-round slots with wins Wednesday.
