Clampett surges into Regions lead

HOOVER, Ala., May 15 (UPI) -- Bobby Clampett, making just his second Champions Tour start, charged into the lead of the Regions Charity Classic Saturday.

Clampett had shared the top spot with three others after Friday's first round, but broke away by firing an 8-under 64 Saturday to stand at 15-under 129, a 36-hole tournament record at the Ross Bridge course in Hoover, Ala.

Dan Forsman trailed by one stroke after breaking the single-round course record with a 10-under 62. With the fantastic round, Forsman zoomed up from 19th place, moving to 14-under 130.

Peter Senior (66) occupied third place at 13-under 131 and Joey Sindelar (67) found himself in fourth at 12-under 132. Those two had shared the first-round lead with Clampett and Russ Cochran.

Cochran, meanwhile, shot a 70, falling all the way into a tie for 11th place.
