Four-way tie on Champions Tour

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 14 (UPI) -- Joey Sindelar, Russ Cochran, Bobby Clampett and Peter Senior -- all seeking a first Champions Tour win -- shared the lead Friday at the Regions Charity Classic.

All four shot a 7-under 65 in the opening round at the Ross Bridge course.

Clampett is playing for just the second time on the Champions circuit after turning 50 last month. He tied for 47th in his only other appearance. Clampett won only once on the regular PGA Tour.

David Frost, David Peoples and R.W. Eaks were tied for fifth at 66 while Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw and current U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin were among those at 67.

Ken Green, who had the lower portion of his right leg amputated last summer following an automobile accident that killed his girlfriend and brother, made his first individual start since that tragedy.

Green opened with a 74 that left him tied for 69th in a 77-player field. He partnered with Mike Reid last month at the Legends of Golf team event, but this was his first solo round since last June.
