MLB: Pittsburgh 2, St. Louis 0

PITTSBURGH, May 8 (UPI) -- Jeff Karstens and four relievers teamed up to throw a four-hit shutout Saturday as the Pittsburgh Pirates blanked St. Louis 2-0.

Karstens (1-1) surrendered only three hits and two walks over six frames, while D.J. Carrasco, Jack Taschner and Joel Hanrahan combined for two scoreless innings and Octavio Dotel hurled the ninth for his sixth save.

Jason Jaramillo got three hits and drove in a run while Ronny Cedeno added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Pirates.

St. Louis' Jaime Garcia (3-2) pitched well in defeat, throwing six innings, during which he gave up one run on seven hits and two walks while fanning seven as the Cards lost for the fourth time in five games.
