Andersson Hed leads at Italian Open

TURIN, Italy, May 7 (UPI) -- Fredrik Andersson Hed rocketed into the lead of the European Tour's Italian Open with a 6-under-par 66 Friday.

Andersson Hed started the day tied for 18th but turned in a bogey-free round for a 36-hole total of 8-under 136 and a 1-stroke lead over a quintet of golfers halfway through the tournament.

That group includes Alejandro Canizares, who matched Andersson Hed's 66. Also in second are Miguel Angel Jimenez, who shot 4-under 68; Nicolas Colsaerts (67); Ignacio Garrido (67); and Hennie Otto (69). Three golfers were tied two strokes back at 7-under 137.

Andersson Hed had back-to-back bogeys in the first round that pushed him down the leaderboard. But he opened the second round with seven consecutive pars and closed the front side with birdies at Nos. 8 and 9.

He had four more pars before dropping in a eagle at the par-4, 449-yard 14th hole. He added birdies at 15 and 17.
