NHL: Pittsburgh 2, Montreal 0

MONTREAL, May 4 (UPI) -- Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 18 shots Tuesday, lifting Pittsburgh to a 2-0 win over Montreal and a 2-1 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Fleury notched his first post-season shutout since the 2008 Eastern Conference finals while Evgeni Malkin's laser shot from the right circle 1:16 into the third period broke a scoreless tie to help the Penguins to the road win.

Pascal Dupuis added an empty-netter after the Canadiens pulled goalie Jaroslav Halak.

Halak was the hard-luck loser, stopping 23-of-24 shots as the Canadiens were whitewashed in the playoffs for the first time since Game 1 of the 2004 Eastern Conference semifinals against Tampa Bay.

The two teams meet again in Montreal Thursday for Game 4.
