Ky. Derby favorite Eskendereya scratched

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 25 (UPI) -- Probable Kentucky Derby favorite Eskendereya has been scratched from next weekend's race due to a leg ailment, the colt's trainer said Sunday.

Todd Pletcher told reporters Eskendereya's left front leg ailment didn't clear up after a Saturday workout, prompting the decision.

Eskendereya had been gathering momentum coming into the May 1 race, taking both the Wood Memorial by 9 3/4 lengths and February's Fountain of Youth Stakes by 8 1/2 lengths.
