NHL: Carolina 8, Tampa Bay 5

TAMPA, Fla., April 6 (UPI) -- Eric Staal's two goals and two assists highlighted an offensive onslaught for Carolina Tuesday as the Hurricanes outlasted Tampa Bay 8-5.

Carolina also got two goals apiece from Rod Brind'Amour and Drayson Bowman and Chad LaRose chipped in with a goal and two helpers in the Hurricanes' top scoring performance this year, which snapped a two-game defeat.

Cam Ward got the win after replacing starting goalie Manny Legace, who left with an undisclosed injury. Ward stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced in 34-plus minutes.

Brandon Bochenski scored twice for the Lightning while Antero Niittymaki allowed five goals on 23 shots in the first period.

Mike Smith, however, was saddled with the loss after replacing the starter and allowing two goals on 17 shots.
