NHL: Washington 3, Boston 2 (OT)

WASHINGTON, April 5 (UPI) -- Brooks Laich scored a power-play goal 44 seconds into overtime Friday, giving the Washington Capitals a 3-2 victory over Boston.

With Dennis Wideman in the box for high sticking, Laich gathered in a rebound from an Alexander Semin shot and put it past Tuukka Rask for the game-winner.

Washington established a franchise-record with 116 points, having already clinched the best record in the NHL.

The one point Boston earned put the Bruins in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, one in front of Philadelphia. Both teams have three games left to play, but the New York Rangers, who have four remaining, trail the Flyers by just two points.

Washington won its third straight, getting a goal and two assists from Nicklas Backstrom. Jose Theodore made 28 saves.

Rask stopped 27-of-30 shots.
