NBA: Washington 107, Denver 97

WASHINGTON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Newly arrived Al Thornton and Josh Howard teamed up for 41 points Friday to lift the Washington Wizards to a 107-97 win over Denver.

Both Thornton and Howard arrived in Washington this week via separate trades, and both made key contributions to the Wizards' win, their fifth in eight games.

Howard's 3-pointer with 7:35 to go in the game gave Washington its first second-half lead at 88-87. Two minutes later the Wizards embarked on a 7-0 run to put the game away, capped by a pair of James Singleton free throws for a 100-93 advantage with less than four minutes remaining.

Andray Blatche netted 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Nick Young and Earl Boykins had 12 points each in the win.

The Nuggets were led by Chauncey Billups with 28 points while Carmelo Anthony chipped in with 23 and Nene contributed 17 points and nine rebounds in the defeat.
