NHL: Philadelphia 6, Montreal 2

MONTREAL, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Danny Briere connected for a hat trick Saturday to pace the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-2 win over Montreal.

Briere's trifecta was his first of the season while Blair Betts, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards also tallied for the Flyers, who finished the run-up to the Olympic break with two straight wins.

Briere's first goal gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead 4:37 into the game, while Richards' shot inside the right post at 11:10 during a power-play gave Philadelphia a two-goal lead.

Michael Leighton made 26 saves in earning his 13th win.

The Canadiens limped into the Olympic break by losing three of four. Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez lit the lamp with power-play tallies in the loss.
