SANTIAGO, Chile, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Fernando Gonzalez and Juan Monaco, the tournament's top two seeds, reached the semifinals Friday at the Movistar Open.
Gonzalez, seeking his third straight title at this event, fought past Marcel Granollers 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (11-9). Gonzalez reached the semifinals for the seventh time in his last eight appearances in the tournament.

Monaco defeated Peter Luczak 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to earn his berth in the semifinals.
In the other quarterfinals, Thomaz Bellucci defeated Eduardo Schwank 6-4, 6-4 and Joao Souza was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Alberto Martin. Souza will be appearing in his first semifinal on the ATP circuit.
