Jaidee takes tournament lead in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Thai golfer Thongchai Jaidee shot a 6-under-par 66 Friday and has a 1-stroke lead halfway through the European PGA Tour's Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

Jaidee didn't have a bogey Friday in jumping from a tie for 12th after the first round into the lead with a 36-hole total of 8-under 136. Lee Westwood, who had Friday's best round with a 65, is tied with Steven Dodd and Miguel Angel Jimenez for second at 7-under.

Jaidee had three birdies on each side Friday. He was 1-under after five holes due to a birdie at the third hole and jumped into contention with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 6-7. He did the same at Nos. 13 and 14 and added a birdie at No. 17 in taking the lead.

Dodd, who was among the first-round leaders, was also bogey-free in the second round, staying close to the top with three birdies. Jimenez had six birdies over an eight-hole span but also carded two bogeys Friday en route to a 67.

Westwood, tied for 30th after Thursday, opened with two birdies and ended up sprinkling seven birdies across his scorecard.
