Top-seeded Gonzalez cruises at Movistar

SANTIAGO, Chile, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Chilean Fernando Gonzalez, the No. 1 seed, drilled his first-round opponent Tuesday in the $450,000 Movistar Open tennis event in Santiago, Chile.

The hometown favorite posted an easy win over Spaniard Oscar Hernandez, 6-2, 6-1, in a mismatch that lasted just under an hour. Gonzalez is the clay-court event's returning two-time champion and has won four Movistar Opens overall.

Elsewhere in the tournament, No. 3 seed Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci battled back against Ecuador's Nicolas Lapentti, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, while Brazilian Ricardo Mello handled fourth-seeded Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 7-6 (7-5), 6-3.

In a mild upset, Poland's Lukasz Kubot ousted Argentine Horacio Zeballos, the No. 5 seed, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Argentine Jose Acasuso easily beat Chilean wildcard Hans Podlipnik-Castillo, 6-1, 6-1.

Acasuso was a Movistar finalist last year and won the tournament in 2006.
