NHL: Tampa Bay 2, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Antero Niittymaki made 26 saves for Tampa Bay Tuesday, leading the Lightning to a 2-1 victory over Atlanta.

Niitymaki was especially tough during a third-period Atlanta power play with less than 8 minutes to go, during which the Thrashers' Ilya Kovalchuk had several one-timer attempts.

The Tampa Bay netminder was also sharp after Atlanta pulled its goalie in the game's waning seconds, when Kovalchuk again had several one-time attempts from the left side, but couldn't connect.

The Lightning got goals from Stephane Veilleux and Marty St. Louis while earning at least one point for the fifth time in six games (4-1-1).

Atlanta's only goal came from Todd White. Ondrej Pavelec allowed two goals on 24 shots in the Thrashers' losing effort.
