Elliott tops NHL player honors

NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Back-up Ottawa goaltender Brian Elliott recorded four victories last week and is the NHL's No. 1 star of the week.

Also singled out by the National Hockey League for play in games Jan. 11-17 were Colorado goaltender Craig Anderson and Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby.

Elliott was installed in the lineup to fill in for the injured Pascal Leclaire allowed just one goal in three of last week's games and had 27 saves in the other. He saved 110 of 115 shots against him over four games.

Anderson posted two shutouts and allowed one goal in a third game in helping the Avalanche to the top of the Western Conference. He stopped 80 of 81 shots in the three games.

Crosby totaled eight points last week. He tied a career-best with the six-point effort in a 6-4 win over the New York Islanders. Included in that were assists on each of Evgeni Malkin's goals in the game.
