ARLINGTON, Texas, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Veteran slugger Vladimir Guerrero, who was not offered a contract by the Los Angeles Angels, has signed a free-agent deal with the Texas Rangers.

Unnamed sources told mlb.com Sunday the Rangers hope the one-year agreement is completed Monday following a physical.

The Rangers' Web site said the salary is expected to be between $5.5 and $6 million with a $1 million buyout.

During an injury-plagued 2009 season with the Angels, the 34-year-old Guerrero batted .295 with 15 home runs and 50 RBI in 383 at-bats.

His gimpy knees led to two stints on the disabled list.

Guerrero is scheduled to be the Rangers' designated hitter because their outfield is set with Josh Hamilton in left, Julio Borbon in center and Nelson Cruz in right.

Their chief outfield reserve is David Murphy.

The Angels kept Bobby Abreu, added DH Hideki Matsui, and also have Torri Hunter.
