PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Danny Briere's two goals and Michael Leighton's goal-tending Wednesday led the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Briere opened the scoring with his 15th goal (power play) at 4:11 of the first period, helping the Flyers build a 3-0 lead after the first 40 minutes.

He scored his 16th at 4:54 of the third, giving Philadelphia a 5-1 advantage.

Chris Pronger had three assists and Jeff Carter two, while Leighton allowed two goals on 30 shots for the Flyers, who have won five of seven.

Toronto's goals were scored by Nikolai Kulemin and Alexei Ponikarovsky, both in the third period.

Net-minder Jonas Gustavsson was beaten six times on 32 shots for the Maple Leafs, who have lost three of four.

On the power play in the penalty-filled contest, Philadelphia went 3-for-6, while Toronto failed to score on its four man-advantage chances.
