Pierce out two weeks after knee surgery

BOSTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Boston forward Paul Pierce underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Wednesday and is expected to be out two weeks.

Team officials said the surgery became necessary after Pierce developed an infection in the knee.

Pierce had not missed any of Boston's 27 games prior to the surgery. He has averaged 18.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per contest.
