COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Robert Lang scored the winning goal in the third round of the shootout Thursday, lifting the Phoenix Coyotes to a 2-1 victory over Columbus.
The Coyotes have won eight of their last 10 games.
Phoenix captain Shane Doan played in his 1,00th regular-season NHL game, becoming the 42nd player in league history to appear in that many contests with one team. He is the 24th player to do so with the franchise that drafted him.
Doan finished off his memorable night by scoring in the second round of the shootout to match a Columbus goal produced by Rick Nash. Lang then ripped a shot past Mathieu Garon for the game-winner.
Jason LaBarbera made only his fifth start of the year for Phoenix and his first since Nov. 16. He got the win by making 38 saves.
Columbus has lost five in a row.
