
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- Steve Downie's two goals and three assists from Martin St. Louis Friday led Tampa Bay to a 5-1 rout of the New York Rangers.
Goals by Steven Stamkos and Kurtis Foster (power play) gave Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead after the first period, then Downie (power play) and Paul Szczechura made it 4-0 with goals in the second.
Kurtis Foster's third goal this season made it 5-0 at 8:24 of the third before New York averted a shutout on Ryan Callahan's short-handed goal with about two minutes left.
Mike Smith yielded one goal on 27 shots for the Lightning, who have won two of three.
Net-minders Henrik Lundqvist and Stephen Valiquette combined to give up five goals on 31 shots for the Rangers, who have split their last four contests.
On the power play, Tampa Bay went 2-for-2, and New York went 0-for-2.
