Tommie Harris' wife dies

BOSTON, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- David Jones had a short-handed goal and an assist Monday to help the Colorado Avalanche post a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins.
Milan Hejduk and Marek Svatos each scored a power-play goal for the Avalanche. Scott Hannan also scored for the Rockies and Colorado goalie Craig Anderson made 29 saves.
Mark Recchi, Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder scored a goal apiece for the Bruins, who went 2-3-0 in a season-opening homestand.
David Krejci had two assists for the Bruins and Boston goalie Tuukka Rask gave up four goals on 22 shots.
