NHL: Edmonton 3, Montreal 2

EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Nikolai Khabibulin blocked 33-of-35 shots Saturday and the Edmonton Oilers went on to defeat the Montreal Canadiens 3-2.

The Oilers got a goal each from Patrick O'Sullivan, J.F. Jacques and Mike Comrie to improve their record to 2-1-1.

Brian Gionta and Roman Hamrlik netted a goal apiece for the Canadiens, while goalie Carey Price stopped 16-of-19 shots.

With 1:20 remaining in the first period, Sam Gagner hit Comrie with a pass at mid ice, and Comrie went on to score.

The Canadiens, who have lost three in a row and seven of their last eight in Edmonton, have their home opener Thursday against Colorado.
