METZ, France, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Seventh-seeded German Andreas Beck advanced Monday at the Open de Moselle tennis tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu.

Beck will be joined in the second round by fellow German Bjorn Phau, who beat countryman Rainer Schuettler 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5) Monday.

This week's top seeds are France's Gael Monfils, German Philip Kohlschreiber and last year's runner-up Paul-Henri Mathieu. Russian Dmitry Tursunov, who is not defending his title this week, defeated the Frenchman Mathieu in last year's finale.
