MIAMI, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Ronny Paulino hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth Wednesday and Josh Johnson fanned seven over six innings, leading Florida past the New York Mets 5-3.
Johnson (13-3) improved to 7-0 lifetime against the Mets, giving up three runs on nine hits without a walk. He has won six of his last seven decisions overall.
Florida overcame a 2-0 deficit on a two-run triple by Cody Ross in the third and Paulino put the Marlins in front for good with his seventh homer of the season.
Leo Nunez gave up a two-out single in the ninth, and then struck out pinch-hitter Jeremy Reed to end the game and pick up his 16th save.
Mike Pelfrey (9-9) took the loss, giving up five runs on 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings.
The Mets have lost five straight. Florida defeated the Mets for the seventh time in 11 meetings this year.
