MLB: Oakland 6, Texas 0

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Mark Ellis drove in three runs in Oakland's 6-0 win over the Texas Rangers Tuesday.

Ellis, who has a nine-game hitting streak, went 3-for-4 in support of Gio Gonzalez (3-2) who struck out seven and held Texas to three hits in 6 2/3 innings for the win.

The Athletics scored single runs in four of the first five innings of the game and tacked on two in the eighth for their fifth victory in their past eight games.

The Rangers managed only five hits, including two by Marlon Byrd and one by Michael Young, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Derek Holland (4-7) was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Kurt Suzuki opened the scoring in the first with a solo home run. Ellis drove in Tommy Everidge in the second inning with a single and then notched his second RBI with a base hit in the fourth that made it 3-0. He drove in the fifth Oakland run in the eighth.
