POREC, Croatia, July 11 (UPI) -- Bob and Mike Bryan won their doubles match Saturday, bringing the United States within 2-1 in its Davis Cup quarterfinal against Croatia.
The twin brothers from Camarillo, Calif., long the No. 1 doubles tandem in men's tennis, silenced a home nation crowd in Porec, Croatia, by winning Saturday's match 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 over Lovro Zovko and Roko Karanusic.
"We're really happy we're back in this thing," Mike Bryan said. "We wanted to keep it short after they played for about nine hours (Friday). The guys believe we can actually win this (quarterfinal), and that's the biggest thing."
The Bryans rose to 17-2 lifetime in Davis Cup matches.
Croatia, the only country the United States has not beaten in Davis Cup play, needs to win one of the remaining two singles to clinch the quarterfinal.
Sunday, American James Blake faces Marin Cilic and, if necessary, Mardy Fish plays 6-foot-10 Ivo Karlovic.
