San Francisco finished its series with Oakland this year by winning five out of six. The Giants outscored the Athletics in those six games 26-12.

The homer by Schierholtz, his second this season, gave the Giants a 2-1 lead and San Francisco added a run later in the second on Aaron Rowand's double.

Andres Torres touched off a three-run fourth with a single that drove in Schierholtz.

Gio Gonzalez (0-1), who was recalled from Class AAA Sacramento to make the start, took the loss. He started for the first time this season and for the eighth time in his career, giving up four runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3.

Gonzalez replaced Josh Outman in the rotation after Outman was put on the disabled list with a sprained left elbow.
