NEW YORK, June 18 (UPI) -- The NFL Thursday handed Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth an indefinite suspension for an alcohol-related violation that killed a man this year.

Stallworth received a 30-day jail sentence and 10 years probation Tuesday when he entered a guilty plea in a DUI manslaughter charge, as part of a plea agreement in Miami. He had entered a not guilty plea June 4 and faced a sentence of 4-to-15 years in prison if convicted on the charge.

Mario Reyes, 59, was killed March 14 when Stallworth hit him with his vehicle as he was walking to a bus stop from work as an overnight crane operator.

"The conduct reflected in your guilty plea resulted in the tragic loss of life and was inexcusable," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a prepared statement. "There is no reasonable dispute that your continued eligibility for participation at this time would undermine the integrity of and public confidence in our league. Accordingly, I have decided to suspend you indefinitely, effective immediately."
